Article about who wrote all the single ladies:
All the 'Single Ladies' Gina Bellafonte is not a fan of VH1's first scripted show: Rather than soliciting your judgment of a money chaser, the show invites it for April (Charity Shea), a dimwitted white woman with no clear goals of any kind. April has a devoted black husband who offers to rent a villa for her in the Mediterranean when the inkling of a bad mood sets in. But April is also carrying on with the city's black mayor, a hound of a guy who seems to be getting busy with half the neighborhood of Buckhead.

ENTER THE SITE

She has no explanation for her affair other than a vague sense of boredom, and her black friends resent the lack of racial solidarity the men in her life display by having fallen for her. Out for dinner with a handsome black guy she meets online, Val is bidden to anger when she learns that he usually goes out only with white women, whose hair and manner he tends to find less objectionable. Single Ladies" has issues with black men, who are depicted as way too self-regarding, and blond women, who are simply taking up too much space on the planet. Not altogether predictably, the show reserves a certain kindness for that forgotten minority: the boyish white man. Apparently "Single Ladies" has yet to see "The Hangover Part II." Given the paucity of roles for black women, is it lame to say that I'm just glad that Lisa Raye and Stacey Dash are getting work? I don't know, I think it's highly likely that any show about upper class black women in Atlanta will have it's share of issue with black (preferably upper class) men and white (preferably blonde) women. Surely, Sex and the City had its issues.

All the single ladies say: not so fast! Why So Many Women Are Perfectly Happy to Stay Single. Put a ring on it?

Click here for why are good women single

All the single ladies say: not so fast! THE BASICS. Why Relationships Matter Find a therapist to strengthen relationships. Have you noticed that writings about single people are overwhelmingly about single women? That’s true not just in popular writings, but also in academic ones. I think that’s because single life is supposed to be more of a problem for women than for men. Women are the ones who are believed to be yearning for marriage and crushed if they never do marry. We think of them as fantasizing about building a nest to share with a spouse and children. Men, on the other hand, are presumed to care more about their independence. They are adventurous. They have other things that give their lives meaning—for example, they can dedicate themselves to their work. Such stereotypes persist despite evidence to the contrary. Now there are even more stereotype-shattering findings, thanks to the recent Tinder survey of 1,036 single adults between the ages of 18 and 25. Previously, I told you about some of the striking findings, but not how men and women differed in how they thought about single life. That’s what I’ll share here. How Young Single Women Defied Stereotypes. When asked if they thought being single benefited them in other parts of their lives, overwhelming numbers of men (79 percent) and women (83 percent) said yes. What benefits did they see? It was the women, more than the men, who said that they got to be more dedicated to their work. That difference was bigger than the gender difference for any of the other reasons. The next biggest difference concerned the potential benefit of getting to make new friends: Single women also endorsed that one more often than single men. More than 70 percent of the single people in the survey said that they had made a conscious decision to stay single for a period of time so they could focus on other things in their life. What were those other things? It was the women, more often than the men, who said that they wanted to stay single for a while so they could focus on studying or getting their degree. In a finding that is consistent with stereotypes, the men said they wanted to focus on their career more often than the women did. But that difference was much smaller than the one showing that women were more interested in focusing on their studies. There were two other big sex differences in response to that question. Women were more likely to say that they chose to stay single to prioritize themselves and their own needs. Men were more likely to say that they stayed single for a while to focus on a specific hobby or interest. In several different ways, it was the women who more often said that they value independence, adventurousness, and their own space. They are the ones who feel more empowered by being single. When asked why they are currently single, women were more likely than men to say that they want to enjoy the journey and the adventure of being single while they are still young. (Men were more likely to say that they were single because they wanted to date lots of people.) When asked how being single makes them feel, women were more likely than men to say that being single made them feel empowered . (However, more of the women also said that being single made them feel lonely.) When asked what they feel uneasy about when thinking about settling down in a romantic relationship, it was the women, more often than the men, who said that they worried about losing their sense of independence . The women were also more concerned than the men about settling for someone for the wrong reason. They also worried about spending less time with family and friends if they got involved in a romantic relationship. THE BASICS. Why Relationships Matter Find a therapist to strengthen relationships. When asked about the aspects of romantic relationships that are not appealing to them, it was the women, more often than the men, who said that they did not like sharing space . (The men were more likely to say that they don’t like making major life changes such as moving to a new home, having a wedding, or having a baby.) There was one way in which the single men were consistently more positive about single life. That’s when they were asked to compare being single to being in a romantic relationship. Both the men and the women evaluated single people more favorably than people in relationships on all four questions they were asked, but the single men favored single people even more than the single women did.

Hello, Guest!

Article about an old unmarried woman:
An Unmarried Woman: The Business of Being a Woman. A couple walk down a cacophonous street in New York. They’re bundled in coats—wrapped up in their own worlds.

GO TO SITE

She is incandescent with joy, talking about her cadre of close friends and their regular meetings. He wears a resigned face, brow furrowed, eyes trained on the concrete, until he is overcome with tears. “I’m in love with someone else,” he mumbles pathetically. In another film of the 1970s, maybe the camera would stay on him, and then go on to detail the high jinks and heartbreaks that ensue in the wake of his blowing up of his seemingly happy marriage. But this camera, and this film, are more interested in her. Erica Benton (Jill Clayburgh) has just had her life upended. Her face, in tight close-up following this revelation, is at first confused, then slips into the murky morass of shock. But as her soon-to-be-ex-husband, Martin (Michael Murphy), blathers on about the twenty-six-year-old woman whom he’s apparently in love with and has been seeing for over a year, her face changes entirely. Jaw tight. Eyes in a glare. Mouth slightly open, as if a bevy of four-letter words sits at the edge of her tongue. “She a good lay?” she spits out venomously, before turning and walking away. This isn’t a triumphant moment but a heartbreaking one. The camera follows her, first from the front, as she looks hollowed-out, mouth still agape. Then it careens to behind her, following her tense, lonely back. The scene ends with her vomiting at the side of the street, holding on to a pole as if her knees may buckle. Paul Mazursky directs the whole thing with uncommon sensitivity, using Clayburgh’s face as a canvas on which all the shifting moods can be read—as he will throughout the film. An Unmarried Woman is a simple, affectionate story. Erica nervously dates, has casual sex, falls in love with a painter (Saul, played with gruff tenderness by Alan Bates), sees Martin try to crawl back, and decides on a course for her future. It’s a film of rough-hewn intimacy, keen social observation, and supreme wit, illuminating feminist politics of its time through Erica’s story of stumbling through divorce and navigating sexual and cultural mores that complicate her quest for independence. When it came out in 1978, Mazursky was already fairly deep into his career as a writer-director, having won acclaim starting with his first feature, 1969’s Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice, a film that carefully, hilariously, and intimately charts the shifting tides of desire through two very different couples who decide to switch partners. He had started out as an actor, first appearing in Stanley Kubrick’s Fear and Desire (1953)—and, in fact, would continue acting into the early 2010s, with appearances on The Sopranos and Curb Your Enthusiasm —but he made his first move into feature directing by way of screenwriting (for television and then Hy Averback’s 1968 I Love You, Alice B. Toklas ) and then went on to direct his own work, including Alex in Wonderland (1970), Blume in Love (1973), Harry and Tonto (1974), and Next Stop, Greenwich Village (1976). These films are marked by a steady handle on tone, crisp and bright humor, and touching yet revealing social observation blended with satire—qualities that all reach their peak in An Unmarried Woman. The seventies in Hollywood are often represented as a groundbreaking time, when art flourished on the silver screen—indeed, when the medium started to be thought of as art in the first place. As Peter Biskind writes in Easy Riders, Raging Bulls: How the Sex-Drugs-and-Rock ’N’ Roll Generation Saved Hollywood, “At its most ambitious, the New Hollywood was a movement intended to cut film free of its evil twin, commerce, enabling it to fly high through the thin air of art. The filmmakers of the seventies hoped to overthrow the studio system, or at least render it irrelevant, by democratizing filmmaking, putting it into the hands of anyone with talent and determination.” But upon closer examination, the picture is far more complicated and disheartening. This was the decade that saw the visionary black director Bill Gunn struggle to get Ganja & Hess released, Elaine May essentially be blacklisted, and an artist with a vision as arresting as Barbara Loden’s able to make only a single film.

An expert explains why. If you were introduced to a random group of white-collar workers and offered $1 million if you could select the happiest person in the group, what kind of person would you pick: A man or a woman? Married or single? Children or no children? According to a new survey released this month, your odds of winning the cash would increase if you skipped any 40-something, single female professionals and focused on the middle-aged male managers with one child at home and a wife who works part-time. In its Office Pulse survey, Captivate Network, a media solutions company, says its uncovered profiles of the happiest and unhappiest workers." And here is the profile of the happiest workers: Male 39 years old Married Household income between $150,000 and $200,000 In a senior management position One young child at home A wife who works part-time. And the unhappiest profile?: Female 42 years old Unmarried (and no children) Household income under $100,000 In a professional position (doctor, lawyer, etc.) In a press release , the company reported that its survey of 670 North American white-collar workers found men to be "consistently happier than women"—both in and out of the office. The results also revealed that men are nearly twice as likely to report feeling balance in their work and personal lives. Men are more likely than women to take breaks during the day for personal activities, in fact, they're much more likely to take breaks simply to relax. Is the survey a fluke, or at least flawed? I'm not so sure. A more comprehensive analysis of trends in subjective well-being across several decades came to similar conclusions regarding female happiness. In The Paradox of Declining Female Happiness published by the American Economic Journal , researchers Betsy Stevenson and Justin Wolfers found that although women's life circumstances have improved greatly over the past few decades by most objective measures, their happiness has declined—both in absolute terms and relative to men's. There are no simple answers to this gender disparity.

states for singles right now. Being single during a global pandemic that has rendered dating in real life nearly impossible sucks. Turns out, living in some states might be less conducive to finding love than others—at least according to a new study by personal finance website WalletHub. The company compared all 50 states across 27 dating-friendliness metrics—from online dating opportunities to movie costs, restaurants per capita, COVID-19-related restrictions, online dating safety and more—to determine the very best and very worst states for singles at the moment. Besides your looks, personality, interests and employment status, your location can influence your odds of finding a romantic partner," reads the study. "Everyone has different priorities when searching for love, but certain places simply make dating easier than others. That’s especially true during the COVID-19 pandemic, as certain states are more impacted than others, though virtual dates have risen in popularity as a safer alternative to going out in person." Overall, the state of Florida has come out on top. But it is one-off, data-based findings that provide the most fodder for conversation. These interesting bits include the fact that Louisiana has the highest share of single adults across the nation. California (#7 on the best-of list), on the other hand, boasts the most fitness and recreational facilities per square root of population while Maine has the lowest violent crime rate in the United States. North Dakota, considered by the study as one of the worst states for dating, registers the lowest unemployment rate for the single population. A silver lining indeed. If it's online dating opportunities that you're after, you might want to consider moving to Washington—which came out on top when considering that specific metric. The state was followed by New Hampshire, Colorado, Utah and California. The area offering the fewest online dating opportunities? Mississippi. Brown, Sex, Religion, and the Single Woman c. 1950–75: The Importance of a ‘Short’ Sexual Revolution to the English Religious Crisis of the Sixties, Twentieth Century British History , Volume 22, Issue 2, June 2011, Pages 189–215, https://doi.org/10.1093/tcbh/hwq048. Abstract. The English ‘sexual revolution’ has recently become increasingly conceived as ‘long’, lasting many decades, and by some historians as a gradual phenomenon, but reaching a peak with the introduction of the oral contraceptive pill in the 1960s. At the same time, the ‘religious crisis’ of the same decade has been attributed by some recent scholarship to liberal Christian revolt within the churches, and largely unconnected with sex. This article offers different views. First, based on the illegitimacy rate, it argues that, after a period of decline, restraint, and only minor change in the period 1946–59, the 1960s witnessed a sudden growth in pre-marital heterosexual intercourse before the pill’s availability to single women, implying a cultural rather than a technological cause. Second, based on contemporary social surveys, it argues that there is clear evidence of a strong inverse correlation between levels of religious activity and levels of pre-marital sexual intercourse. Third, it argues that in the 1950s the dominant conservative Christian culture restrained single women from pre-marital sexual intercourse, but that from the early 1960s changing attitudes led to rising levels of sexual activity, led by single women, which reduced religious attitudes and Christian churchgoing, thus constituting a significant instigator of the religious crisis. © The Author [2010]. All the Single Ladies was published in 2016 by Simon and Schuster. Short Takes: Rebecca Traister's All the Single Ladies. Surveying the Singles Beat Kate Bolick. It’s Great to Be Young Nancy F. Cott. The Urgent Need for a Singles Studies Discipline Bella DePaulo. Great Stories about Ladies without Partners Barbara J. Risman. Our Work Is Never Done Judith Stacey. Surveying the Singles Beat. Kate Bolick. In 2000, when I started musing on single women as a historical archetype, I had no idea that this niche preoccupation would someday come to have wide appeal. I was simply curious to know why, here in this new millennium, popular culture took such a dim view of single women, portraying them as either dating-obsessed shopaholics (Carrie Bradshaw) or binge-eating lonely hearts (Bridget Jones). Where had the proudly unmarried New Women of the 1890s gone? In 2011, while reporting a cover story for The Atlantic about changing marriage trends and the rising single demographic, I discovered an answer: society was still threatened by single women. For the first time in history, unmarried people outnumbered the married, and many were quite happy to be single—which I know because after that article, called “All the Single Ladies” (thank you, Beyoncé), went viral, I heard from quite a few of them, writing to express their gratitude for finally seeing themselves represented in a mainstream magazine. I was also approached by several publishers about expanding the article into a book, and though I believed a book-length journalistic exploration of single women today was necessary and important, it wasn’t one I wanted to write. So I was relieved when, around that time, I first met Rebecca Traister—we’d been invited to speak together on the topic—and learned that she was already on the case, freeing me to take a different, far more idiosyncratic approach to the demographic shift that captivated us both, one that would, I hoped, reach those readers who are inspired to think deeply about their place in the world through the absorbing pull of narrative and the indirect movement of essay rather than the direct address of journalism. (Also, I wanted to discard the role of talking head as quickly as possible.) The result, Spinster , a very personal blend of memoir, biography, reporting, and cultural history that charts my own coming into adulthood at a time when public conversation around singledom was at a low and shows the parallels between single women at the turn of the nineteenth century and the turn of the twentieth, came out last year. I learned a great deal during my singles research, but the most unexpected discovery was how many books on the topic had already been published, whether humorous, how-to, contemporary and journalistic, or historical and academic. Just a sampling: in 1901 there was Myrtle Reed’s The Spinster Book , the 1930s inspired Marjorie Hillis’s Live Alone and Like It , the 1950s introduced Elaine Dundy’s single-gal chick-lit prototype, The Dud Avocado , the 1960s had Helen Gurley Brown’s famous Sex and the Single Girl , the 1970s saw Marie Edwards and Eleanor Hoover’s The Challenge of Being Single , Margaret Adams’s Single Blessedness , and June Sochen’s The New Woman , the 1980s had Nancy L. Peterson’s Our Lives for Ourselves , Barbara Levy Simon’s Never Married Women, and Lee Virginia Chambers-Schiller’s Liberty, a Better Husband . In the early 2000s, the deluge began: Betsy Israel’s The Bachelor Girl , Naomi Braun Rosenthal’s Spinster Tales and Womanly Possibilities , E. Kay Trimberger’s, The New Single Woman , Eric Klinenberg’s Going Solo , and, most conspicuously, two deeply thoughtful books about the contemporary single condition, along with a library’s worth of papers, blog posts, and articles exploring the subject from an endless variety of angles, by social psychologist Bella DePaulo, all of which led me to designate her, in my Atlantic article, “America’s foremost writer and thinker on the single experience.” Traister’s contribution to this literature, All the Single Ladies , like a college survey class on the topic, is reasonable and comprehensive, showing the ways in which the single experience can vary according to race, class, geographical region, and sexual orientation.

And of course, I always respond with a resounding yes! Proverbs 31 for the Single Woman | 5 Ways to Be a Single Proverbs 31 Woman. I get this question a lot: Can I be single and still be a Proverbs 31 Woman?

GO TO SITE

And of course, I always respond with a resounding yes! Today I’m excited to share this important topic with you. “An excellent wife who can find? She is far more precious than jewels.” If you are a single woman, it would be easy to read that and think the verses that follow don’t have anything to do with you. But Proverbs 31:10–31 describes a woman of excellence, a woman of virtue—and that is something all women can aspire to. As believers, we are the church, and the church is the bride of Christ. So if you are single, I want to challenge you to read and study Proverbs 31:10–31 with fresh eyes. The Character of the Proverbs 31 Woman. If we were to describe the Proverbs 31 woman, we would emphasize her character. Words and phrases like excellent, trustworthy, hard-working, industrious, and productive come to mind. As we continue to study her we realize she does good, plans ahead, manages her household well, and is even an entrepreneur. She is able to laugh as she faces the future, strengthens her arms, and is kind and wise. Above all, she fears the Lord. These characteristics are for every woman, not just those who are married. 5 Ways to BE a Single Proverbs 31 Woman. 1. Be Rare. Verse 10 asks the question, “Who can find an excellent wife?” and goes on to say she is far more precious than jewels. Jewels have significant value in the ancient world. They were precious. Why was an excellent wife hard to find? Because she was different. She stood out in our crowd because of her character. We need to ask ourselves what will make me different from the culture around me? In a world where women fight for more than rights and look for superiority over men, let’s be women who look out for our brothers in Christ. Let’s not dress in a way that makes it harder for them to keep their thoughts pure. Let’s pray for them and remember that we are their sisters in Christ. We are family and family looks out for one another. “ Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests , but also to the interests of others.” Philippians 2:3–4. 2. Be Trustworthy. “ The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will have no lack of gain.” Proverbs 31:11. When you say you will do something, then do it. When you are told something in confidence, keep that confidence. In this way, you will be the kind of person who people will come to when they need help or to talk. You’ll have the opportunity to encourage, counsel, and pray for others. You’ll have the chance to help meet their needs because you are the kind of person they know will have their back. 3. Be Industrious. We don’t use that word as much anymore, but it captures the Proverbs 31 woman so well. Industrious means diligent and hard-working. Proverbs 31:13–16, 18–19, 21–22, and 27 all paint a picture of an industrious woman—a woman who rises early and has a plan. One who works with her hands to provide for her household. She’s even a business woman who uses her resources wisely. The Proverbs 31 woman “does not eat the bread of idleness”. “ Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.” Colossians 3:23–24. 4. Be Wise. “ She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.” Proverbs 31:26. Where do we find wisdom? God’s Word. Wisdom is the ability to live life skillfully, and that can’t be done without the giver of life. The Bible is the means through which God has chosen to share His story of redemption with the world. Through it we get to know the character of God and how we should respond to Him. We see how real people have walked with God in obedience and we’ve seen the consequences of a life apart from Him. Wisdom, though, starts with fear. 5. Be Fearful. “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.” Proverbs 9:10. This isn’t a childlike fear, thinking God is going to “get you” if you make a mistake. It’s a healthy, mature fear that recognizes who you are in light of who He is. It’s a reverential awe of the God who created all things. “ Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.” Proverbs 31:30. The Abiding Life of the Proverbs 31 Woman. How can you do all these things? In a way you can’t—not in your own strength anyway. “ Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me.” John 15:4. What is the fruit of the abiding life? “ But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control, against such things there is no law.” Galatians 5:22–23. It doesn’t matter whether we are married or single. We are called to be fruit bearers . Just like the woman pictured in Proverbs 31.

Hello, visitor!

Article about how many single women in the world:
Around the World, Marriage Is Declining, Singles Are Rising. Why it matters that globally, fewer people are married, more are living single. All around the world, marriage is in decline and single living is on the rise.

ENTER THE SITE

Those are some of the conclusions from an important and wide-ranging report, “Families in a Changing World,” released by UN Women this summer. For evidence, the United Nations report assembled statistics on the percentage of women who reach their late forties without ever having married (it is increasing), the average age at which people marry for the first time, of those who do marry (that is increasing, too), and the proportion of people in their late forties who are divorced or separated (also increasing). Global averages were reported, as well as separate statistics for eight regions of the world. (Examples of countries in the eight regions are listed at the end.) No statistics were provided on the percentage of adults of all ages who are and are not married. However, when more women are staying single at least until their late forties, when the people who do marry are getting around to it later and later in life, and when more of the people who marry are getting divorced, the overall population of adults is going to include, over time, fewer people who are married and more who are not. Percent of Women in Their Late 40s (45-49) Who Had Never Been Married, 2010. Worldwide, 4.3 percent of women get to their late forties without ever marrying. Differences by region are striking. In Australia and New Zealand, 1 out of every 7 women in their late forties has never been married. In Central and Southern Asia, the same is true for only about 1 in 100 women. 4.3 percent, worldwide. 14.1 percent, Australia and New Zealand 13.4 percent, Latin America and the Caribbean 10.8 percent, Europe and North America 6.1 percent, Sub-Saharan Africa 4.8 percent, Northern Africa and Western Asia 3.7 percent, Oceania (excluding Australia and New Zealand) 2.5 percent, Eastern and South-Eastern Asia 1.1 percent, Central and Southern Asia. In all eight regions, the percent of women who have never married has increased in the two decades between 1990 and 2010. Worldwide, it has increased by 1.2 percentage points, from 3.1 percent to 4.3 percent. The biggest increase occurred in Australia and New Zealand, a remarkable increase of 9.7 percentage points, from just 4.4 percent in 1990 to 14.1 percent in 2010. (Other research shows that in Australia, lifelong single women with no children are doing great.) The smallest increase, of just 0.2 percentage points, occurred in Central and Southern Asia. Why This Is Important. There are indications that the number of lifelong single people may increase dramatically in the coming years, at least in some regions. For example, the Pew Research Center estimates that by the time today’s young adults in the U.S. reach the age of 50, about 25 percent of them will have been single their whole lives. To have a cohort of 50-year-olds in which 1 out of 4 have never been married will transform the social, political, and economic landscape in ways we cannot yet fully imagine. Average Age at Which People First Marry (of Those Who Do Marry), 2010. Around the world, men are, on average, 26.6 when they first marry (of those who do marry) and women are 23.3. Adults wait longest to marry in Australia and New Zealand. But even in the region in which newlyweds are younger than anywhere else in the world, Central and Southern Asia, men are in their mid-twenties. 26.6 for men and 23.3 for women, worldwide. 31.5 for men and 30 for women, Australia and New Zealand 29.6 for men and 27.2 for women, Europe and Northern America 29.1 for men and 25.4 for women, Northern Africa and Western Asia 28.2 for men and 25 for women, Oceania (excluding Australia and New Zealand) 27.0 for men and 22.1 for women, Sub-Saharan Africa 26.8 for men and 24.5 for women, Eastern and South-Eastern Asia 26.4 for men and 23.6 for women, Latin America and the Caribbean 25.0 for men and 20.8 for women, Central and Southern Asia. In all eight regions, the age at which people first married in 2010 was older than it was 20 years earlier, in 1990. Worldwide, both men and women were 1.4 years older in 2010 than they were in 1990. It is also interesting that in all eight regions, the men are older than the women when they first marry. Worldwide, the men are an average of 3.3 years older than the women. By region, the age difference varies from a low of 1.5 years in Australia and New Zealand to a high of 4.9 years in Sub-Saharan Africa. Why This Is Important. The UN report was subtitled, “Progress of the World’s Women 2019-2020,” and focused on the implications of global changes for women. With regard to the worldwide delay of marriage, for those who do marry, the report noted: “This has enabled women to complete their education, gain a stronger foothold in the labor market, and support themselves financially.” I think staying single longer offers advantages to men as well as women. For example, both learn to master the kinds of skills that may have been relegated to their spouse if they had married very young and divvied up the tasks in gender-stereotyped ways. Proportion of People 45-49 Years-Old Who Are Divorced or Separated, 2010. Worldwide, close to 5 percent of women and about 3 percent of men in their late forties were divorced or separated in 2010. Regional differences were striking. In Australia and New Zealand, more than 1 in every 5 women in their late forties were divorced or separated, as were about 16 percent of the men. In Central and Southern Asia, only a little over 1 percent of the women and a little under 1 percent of the men in their late forties were divorced or separated. 4.7 percent of the women and 3.1 percent of the men, worldwide. 21.1 percent of the women and 16.3 percent of the men, Australia and New Zealand 13.1 percent of the women and 8.7 percent of the men, Europe and Northern America 9.6 percent of the women and 5.2 percent of the men, Latin America and the Caribbean 6.9 percent of the women and 3.2 percent of the men, Sub-Saharan Africa 5.8 percent of the women and 3.2 percent of the men, Eastern and South-Eastern Asia (excluding China) 4.8 percent of the women and 3 percent of the men, Oceania (excluding Australia and New Zealand) 4.5 percent of the women and 1.5 percent of the men, Northern Africa and Western Asia 1.4 percent of the women and 0.6 percent of the men, Central and Southern Asia. In every region of the world, the divorce rate was higher in 2010 than it was in 1980, though the 2010 rate wasn’t always the highest of the four estimates (for 1980, 1990, 2000, and 2010). Worldwide, the divorce rate increased from 3.3 percent in 1980 to 4.7 percent in 2010 for women, and from 2.1 percent to 3.1 percent for men. Again, increases in divorce varied a lot by region. In Australia and New Zealand, the rate increased by a remarkable 12.2 percentage points for the women (from 8.9 percent in 1980 to 21.1 percent in 2010) and 8.7 percentage points for the men. In Central and Southern Asia, rates of divorce increased by only 0.5 percentage points for the women and 0.1 for the men. It is also noteworthy that in every region of the world, there are proportionately more women than men in their late forties who are divorced or separated. That’s probably because men remarry more often than women, and when they do, they tend to marry women from younger age groups. Why This Is Important. In its focus on women, the UN report describes both positive and negative implications of the increasing rates of divorce. Evidence is from select countries from which data are available. Positive Implications: “lower rates of suicide by women” “a lower incidence of reported domestic violence” “fewer instances of women being murdered by their spouses” Negative Implications: “Ending a relationship typically entails far more adverse economic consequences for women than for men. All too often, women lose access to: “marital assets” “resources” “or even child custody” Cohabitation and Living Apart Together. The report notes that cohabitation has been increasing around the world but does not provide specific statistics.

All the Single Ladies: Easy Applique Tutorial. This is my first post on the Bernina Blog and I have for you today a tutorial to make this fabulous set of mini quilts. I named them “All the Single Ladies” because all of them are single mini quilts.

GO TO SITE

And also because while I was making them, I could not get the song out of my head! So if you like it, you should put a ring on it! You can use the 10 applique patterns to make 10 different mini quilts or you can use them to make 10 blocks and make them into a quilt. 1. Background Fabric – At least 10? x 18? for each lady. 2. Backing Fabric – According to final size of your quilt. 3. Brown solid fabric – ONE Fat Quarter (18? x 22?) 4. Golden Yellow Solid Fabric – ONE Fat Quarter (18? x 22?) 5. Colourful Fabric Scraps for the ladies’ clothes. 6. Double sided fusible web for Applique ( I have used Pellon Wonder Under #805) 7. Thread for applique & quilting. (I have used Aurifil Monofilament thread) 8. Batting – According to the final size of your quilt. 1. Download the pattern template. All the Single Ladies. The Template has been designed to print on A4 paper. 2. Every lady has to be printed on 2 papers. Join the 2 parts by matching the design. 3. Trace the lady on to the paper side of the fusible web. 4. Cut away the different parts and iron the web onto the respective fabrics to the wrong side. I decided to use pieces of fabrics to make the dresses. So I marked random shapes on the dress part and fused different fabrics to it. 5. Cut the fabric along the edges. 6. Peel off the paper and iron the applique onto the background fabric. 7. Use the Free Motion Quilting Foot (29 or 29C) or the BSR and stitch along the edges using a small stitch length. 8. Repeat till all pieces are in place. 9. f you are putting together all 10 ladies to make a single quilt top, join the blocks together with or without sashing. If you are making individual mini quilts, continue to step 10 directly.

In a provocative, groundbreaking work, National Magazine Award finalist Rebecca Traister, “the most brilliant voice on feminism in the country” (Anne Lamott), traces the history of unmarried and late-married women in America who, through social, political, and economic means, have radically shaped our nation. In 2009, the award-winning journalist Rebecca Traister started All the Single Ladies—a book she thought would be a work of contemporary journalism—about the twenty-first century phenomenon of the American single woman. It was the year the proportion of American women who were married dropped below fifty percent, and the median age of first marriages, which had remained between twenty and twenty-two years old for nearly a century (1890–1980), had risen dramatically to twenty-seven. But over the course of her vast research and more than a hundred interviews with academics and social scientists and prominent single women, Traister discovered a startling truth: the phenomenon of the single woman in America is not a new one. And historically, when women were given options beyond early heterosexual marriage, the results were massive social change—temperance, abolition, secondary education, and more. Today, only twenty percent of Americans are wed by age twenty-nine, compared to nearly sixty percent in 1960. The Population Reference Bureau calls it a “dramatic reversal.” All the Single Ladies is a remarkable portrait of contemporary American life and how we got here, through the lens of the single American woman. Covering class, race, sexual orientation, and filled with vivid anecdotes from fascinating contemporary and historical figures, All the Single Ladies is destined to be a classic work of social history and journalism. Exhaustively researched, brilliantly balanced, and told with Traister’s signature wit and insight, this book should be shelved alongside Gail Collins’s When Everything Changed. Rebecca Traister writes about politics and gender for Salon, and has contributed to the New York Observer, Elle, the New York Times, Vogue, the Nation and other publications. She lives in Brooklyn, NY with her husband.

All the single ladies original. I took a gander at Beyonce's new video Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" and, wow: the song is nothing special, but check out her dance moves.

This woman is wildly talented, we knew that, but she just keeps upping herself. (I know I've included three videos here, but if you're not going to watch all of them, at least watch some of each, you have to see the progression.) And then I found this: someone on youtube referred to Gwen Verdon, a dancer and actress named who made herself known in the 1950s and 60s on Broadway. She starred in Bob Fosse's Damn Yankees and Sweet Charity . After watching this video, hip thrusting and all, it is pretty obvious that Beyonce is putting Verdon's moves in a modern hip-hop (and way sexier) context and thrown some Tina Turner into the mix. This juxtaposition of Beyonce's audio track with Verdon's video is actually really fun to watch. Love, LOVE the outfits. ADDENDUM : "They" deleted this video, very sad. It fit perfectly. But what made me want, no NEED, to post about this this video of Verdon's choreography with the original music called "Mexican Breakfast" from the Ed Sullivan Show . Um, HILARIOUS! And just to get a feeling for it: if you were able to watch all the way to the end, Sullivan refers to Verdon as the "greatest dancer that show business has ever produced." Maybe watch this opening clip of the Austin Powers theme and you will be transported back in time. I'm sure Mike Myers based this theme song and opening dance sequence on this genre of dance. ADDENDUM : I've been seeing a lot of folks berating Beyonce for "stealing" Verdon's moves: THIS IS NOT THE SAME CHOREOGRAPHY people! Can you imagine if Beyonce did the exact same dance moves in a newly released music video, especially in that hot outfit? It would be absolutely ridiculous. We'd be laughing our go-go boots off! Beyonce is an innovator. I mean, true originality is sort of a farce in art. Even true geniuses are lucky to do one thing completely original in their lifetimes. It's the innovators that take the established way, change it, and makes it new: Elvis did it with Big Mama Thorton, The Beatles did it with Chuck Berry, Led Zeppelin did it with Muddy Waters and even Michael Jackson did it with breakdancing. And anyway, we only have so many limbs and they can only move in so many directions, so as someone who knows very little about dance, it makes sense that it's gotta be hard to come up with brand new dance moves. 14 comments: Jamie, have to agree with you about the song. In fact, don't understand why it's being repeated. A good "steal" from Beyonce though. I'm sure the moves in the 60's were considered sexy, but today's version with Beyonce and her partners is definitely hot! Not only are those some sexy 60s moves, but I now have an insatiable hunger for some seriously old-school dating game shows. God I just cannot get over those fluffy sleeves!

Fast forward past high school, college, and beyond your social circle… And you’ll run into an unfortunate problem a lot of men face today: Where do I meet women? While nearly half the world’s population is made up of females (Roughly 3.52 billion) , the reality of finding the right woman isn’t as easy as it sounds. Why is that? Well, here’s the answer and you’re probably not going to like it. I’m not giving to give you statics that say only a certain percent are single, attractive, in-shape, etc. I’m going to flat out tell you the truth without all the excuses. Most of the guys who really struggle meeting women have one common problem: They don’t ever leave the house or office! When they do, they go to places where the competition is too high. These are the same types of places where women want to relax, not be hit on over and over again! Or, they get so buried in their phones that they shut the rest of the world out. If you want to meet women, you must stop being so distracted. Make eye contact and smile. Be present and in the moment. Let them know you’re interested. Open your fu-cking mouth! There is more to life than just Tinder and online dating sites. It goes right back to the competition aspect I just mentioned above. Want to avoid chasing women and reeking of desperation? Read below: The Reality. Regardless of the day or time, women are out and about, everywhere, attending a whole host of social events from religious functions to volunteer work, shopping trips, etc. In comparison, the average single man sits right at home, all alone. Less Competition. Before you hop into the list of places to try below, consider one piece of advice first: Go to places where there’s less competition. In other words, places where women aren’t expecting to be hit on or approached. When it comes to bars and clubs, the reality is most guys and girls do nothing, aside from staring at each other the entire night. The men who are successful play a great game, and unfortunately, most men can’t even compete on their level. Now, while there’s success in numbers, don’t fool yourself. Women notice when a man gets rejected, even if he’s half away across the room. Most guys keep trying over and over, and by the end of the night, their heads hung down low and they reek of desperation. Will they see success after the twentieth time? Sure, they might. However, most guys don’t have a large enough emotional bank account to handle that much rejection, especially in one single night. Why go through all of that, let alone deal with all the competition if you don’t have to? In reality, you can be a woman’s best and only option. Here’s how: Places outside of the box. Think of gentlemen as the hunters and the prowlers. Naturally, women hide from them. Where do they find a safe refuge? In places like the mall, bookstore, coffee shop, and so on. Now, these places aren’t ground-breaking, although perhaps for you, a few might be. In reality, most of these places are where guys refuse to go on weekend nights. To them, hanging out in these spots equates to one thing: A wasted weekend. That couldn’t be further from the truth! Let’s face it, you can be as judgmental as the guys who aren’t bold enough to go to them. Or you can give these places a try and see how just how easy to meet women. It’s your choice. For your sake, I hope you venture out to them with an open mind and start thinking outside of the box when it is time to come up with new ways to meet women. Where To Meet Women. 1. Airports. Unless you’re traveling on your very own private jet, you’ll be stuck doing the same thing as everyone else: Waiting around. Your flight gets delayed, your layover is too long, or perhaps you arrived a little too early at the airport in advanced. All of which creates boredom. In reality, most people are looking for ways to pass the time, talking is a great way to do that. Just by being there, you have something in common before you even begin to strike up a conversation. Of course, many are adventurers or simply looking to meet new people along their travels too. Take, for instance, my trip to London. I met a woman from my hometown on my first flight out while waiting in the lounge. On the connecting flight, I met two British girls who sat across from my aisle, both lived in London near my hotel. On my last flight back home, I met another woman from my hometown who was returning from a vacation in another state. Even if you suck in the communication department, holding a conversation at an airport is perhaps one of the easiest things to do. People love to gab on and on about all their vacation experiences/stories. They are eager to recommend their best hometown restaurants, bars, attractions etc. too. 2. Museums. Art museums, Art Galleries, History/Science Museums, and Exhibits, etc. Another thing to consider: A lot of universities host student-based art/design shows throughout the month. If you’re looking to hang around a younger crowd, it’s a good place to be. 3. The Post Office. When I was pumping out orders for the store, I paid a visit to the post office on a daily basis. Half of the time, there would be a woman my age waiting in line next to me. In reality, women ship things too. 4. Meetups. There’s a meetup group for just about anything these days. From tech to dog walkers, hikers, knitting and more. You name it, and one probably exists. 5. Faith-based. If you’re religious join a church group. My neighbors were heavily into that sort of thing years ago, and I was surprised to discover how many events they got invited to. However, I’m not just talking about Bible studies here. I’m talking about parties, local gatherings, rather fun volunteer events, etc. Needless to say, their social circle just by being in the church group was massive. Remember, friends lead to more friends, and yes, more new women too. 6. Recreation Sports Leagues. Join them, even if you suck at sports, and don’t plan on being an all-star athlete in your lifetime. From co-ed sports like kickball to bars with volleyball matches, there are lots of recreational sports leagues you can participate in or at least go and cheer for and possibly run into Miss Right. 7. Take a Class. That doesn’t mean you have to go back to college! Try improve, cooking classes, photography, music lessons, dancing, yoga/fitness classes, etc. If you like beer or wine, take a course and learn/taste all the different types. 8. Animal Adoption Centers. Meet man’s best friend and potentially your next girlfriend. Shelter pups need the same kind of love and companionship you’re looking for. However, that doesn’t mean you must adopt a dog on the spot at a local shelter or animal rescue center. You can always go with the intent of simply interacting with pets who desperately need a human friend for a day. Most, if not all of these places will gladly welcome you with open arms. As a plus, the act alone shows your gentle side to any female you come across. Now, while you might think most volunteers are older, retired cat-ladies, the statement is only partially true. In reality, there are a lot of younger women who volunteer, including college students. You’d be surprised. Of course, there’s one more thing to keep in mind. The majority of these shelters and recuse places host fundraising events, dog walks, and small gatherings throughout the month. It’s effortless to get an invite. Remember, you’re expanding your social circle greatly here, you’ll be introduced to more people than you can imagine. 9. Volunteer. Whenever someone brings up the word, “Volunteer” most tend to think at first glance, things like soup kitchens, food pantries, helping the homeless and so on. Perhaps that’s not your thing, don’t worry. The truth is, there are a lot of different organizations that value your time. And yes, you’ll meet plenty of women through them. Take, for instance, the American Red Cross, Political Campaigns, Art Museums, Local Libraries, National Parks, Habitat for Humanity, Animal Societies, Youth Services, Environmentalist groups, Hackerspaces, Churches, Foundations, National Rifle Association, Sierra Club, etc. (I could go on forever here.) Of course, there are other ways to volunteer that are outside the box.

Hello, Guest!

Article about all the single ladies all the single ladies:
All the Single Ladies. I did all the squad stories post-game so my units obviously have better gear and higher levels. However, I have tried to keep the strategies well-within the capabilities of weaker characters, for those who wish to finish these missions way earlier.

Special Mission 10: Saving Private Hudson. For this mission, you are allowed to select three additional units for the rescue team but it will take a few turns for them to arrive. Because of this, it would be best to leave those spots blank and let the ladies find a way to escape on their own. Begin Turn 1 by having Rita throw a grenade at the wooden fence behind you. This opens up a relatively safe path to the target point fo Millenia later. Next, send Brittany down the path to destroy a total of three Gatling Turrets. Finally, take Millenia down the path to kill the Scout first then just rush towards the goal. It is important to keep moving so you get out of the Gatling Bunker's range quickly. The mission completes after Private Hudson reaches the destination.
