It's not even the fact that the thief is trying to make off with a bunch of eggs that gets me it's the smug, almost nonchalant air about the whole ordeal. Like, what's the point of stealing eggs, anyway? Are we really that desperate for food that we're resorting to shoplifting from corner stores? It's like he's trying to outsmart the store's security cameras, but all he's really doing is making a mockery of himself. As I watched the video, I couldn't help but wonder what kind of desperation drives someone to steal from a small business. Is it poverty? Ignorance? A complete lack of empathy for the people who own and operate these stores? I don't know but what I do know is that it's not just the thief who's to blame. We as a society also bear some responsibility for creating an environment where people feel like they have no other choice but to resort to theft.
